Facebook Fans Can Like Obama But He's No Friend
US President Barack Obama has joined Facebook,
but daughters Sasha and Malia needn't worry about an uncool friend
request from dad.
Fans may 'like' the US President's public figure page on the
social network - and 45 million people had done so within hours of its
launch on Monday - but it doesn't facilitate friending.Mr Obama's first post was a video of him walking around the White House South Lawn talking about the beauty of nature, before delivering a policy message on climate change.
"Hello, Facebook! I finally got my very own page," a chirpy Mr Obama says in the clip.
"I'm kicking it off by inviting you to take a walk with me in my backyard - something I try to do at the end of the day before I head in for dinner."
His profile identifies him as "Dad, husband, and 44th President of the United States".
His timeline includes such life events as his 1992 marriage to First Lady Michelle Obama and his swearing in as US President.
Mr Obama's lack of a Facebook page nearly three-quarters of the way through his second term in office is perhaps surprising given the White House has a dedicated unit running its Instagram, YouTube and Twitter accounts.
Along with the politics, he promised fans of his latest foray into social media some "just-for-fun stuff, too".
